The Academy Award for Catholics! The Evangelii Gaudium honor from St. John’s Seminary

September 16th was a night to remember with 950 attending a festive occasion on the plaza of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. We celebrated the achievements of seminary graduates Fr. Rodel Balagtas, Msgr. John Moretta, and Bishop Tim Freyer, including the important work of the seminary in educating priests for ministry in the Catholic church.

For me, I gratefully accepted the Evangelii Gaudium honor. It was a time to celebrate the importance of the priests in my life from my Catholic school days to present, and to recognize that our priests and all religious men and women in our lives are there to help us get to heaven. I was happy to have so many friends, colleagues, and family members together for what I viewed as the most important honor in my life, like an academy award for Catholics!

With appreciation and thanks to Archbishop José H. Gomez, Dan Schwala, Fr. Marco Durazo and the Seminary Board for this recognition.
