September 23rd was a day of celebration, hope, and happiness for Los Angeles as four bishops were ordained by Archbishop José H. Gomez to serve the Archdiocese. These four men are great priests that have been elevated to auxiliary bishop positions in the largest archdiocese in our country. Each of these new bishops knows the depth and breadth of this vast, multicultural three-county area that serves over 4.5 million Catholics.
Tania and I attended the historic ordination with more priests in attendance than we could count! Many leaders in the Archdiocese, parishioners, and family and friends of the auxiliary bishops added their support and encouragement. I attended the Vespers the night before, a solemn prayer service preparing for the ordinations.
The Cathedral staff, choir and volunteers produced seamless and on-time events. While attending these services, I recognized that the sacraments that take place inside the Cathedral are far more important than the building, yet having such a magnificent Cathedral makes me proud to be part of our Catholic community of this archdiocese.
