Archbishop José H. Gomez Fund for the Benefit of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Archbishop José H. Gomez came to Los Angeles in 2010 by way of San Antonio, Texas, and Denver, Colorado. A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Archbishop Gomez has been a voice of compassion and reason on moral and spiritual issues in American public life and culture. This fund will ensure the future of the Archdiocese by providing funds for ADLA-approved programs and projects that are aligned with the Archbishop’s vision.

Bill and Helen Close Fund for the Benefit of the Catholic Education Foundation of Los Angeles

This fund was established to recognize Bill as a founding board member of the Catholic Education Foundation and for the many decades of support he and his wife, Helen, have given to Catholic school education in our Archdiocese. This is a permanently endowed fund with a 5% spending guideline. Gifts to this fund are payable to CCF-LA for deposit to A/C #01000-008.

Brother Hilarion O’Connor, O.S.F., Fund for the Benefit of Sacred Art at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

Brother Hilarion O’Connor, an Irish-born Franciscan brother, is the Director of Operations for the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, a role that first meant pulling a team together to construct the Cathedral campus. Today, Brother is involved in all aspects of what it takes to create the sacred space that is the heart of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. His work encompasses everything from maintaining the beauty of the gardens and buildings to art acquisitions and exhibits.

Cardinal Roger M. Mahony Fund for Special Liturgical Celebrations at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels serves more than 5 million Catholics and is where the Archbishop celebrates the major liturgies of the year. Holidays, sacraments, memorials, special events, and more are marked at the Cathedral with rich celebrations that attract new parishioners and friends to our Catholic faith. This fund honors Cardinal Mahony’s 26 years of service to the Archdiocese and ensures that the Cathedral remains a relevant place for all to rejoice in the Word of God.

Dick and Rita Closson Fund

Including the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in a will or trust is a simple yet often overlooked way to support our Church. The Dick and Rita Closson Fund aims to educate the Catholic community on the impact that estate planning has on the mission of our Church through seminars presented throughout the Archdiocese. The endowment supports this and other efforts of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Planned Giving Office.

Cathedral Music Fund

The aim of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels’ music ministry, under founding Music Director Frank Brownstead, was to develop a sacred music program that encompasses the beautiful traditions of the Church and the multiple cultural traditions of the Archdiocese. This fund provides for new and ongoing musical programs at the Cathedral, multiple choirs, public performances, musical liturgies, and care for the pipe organ.

House of Prayer for Priests Education Fund in Honor of Fr. John McAnulty, S.J.

In honor of Fr. John McAnulty, who founded the House of Prayer for Priests in 1975 and served as its director for 25 years, this fund provides for the continuing education and spiritual formation of priests in the Los Angeles region through books, materials, and supplies; retreats; seminars; and other opportunities to inspire and build vocations.

Junipero Serra High School Teachers Charitable Fund for Classroom Projects

The faculty and staff of Junipero Serra High School, located in Gardena, California, are predominately laymen and -women who are dedicated to the Catholic philosophy of education and the values of the Gospel. This fund was established to provide funding for classroom materials, projects, programs, and/or initiatives that fall outside of the budget. Grants are considered by the fund advisers at any time and on a case-by-case basis for values between $ 250 and $ 500.

Kathleen H. Anderson Fund for Catholic School Education

This endowment fund was established by a generous donor to support the Catholic Education Foundation and was named in honor of Kathleen H. Anderson, who served as its Executive Director from 2003 to 2012. A Catholic school graduate from first grade through college, Mrs. Anderson believed in the empowerment of a Catholic school education and worked tirelessly to fund tuition for the poorest students in the poorest schools throughout the Archdiocese.

Monsignor Francis J. Weber Fund for the Benefit of the Archival Center at the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

The Archival Center at the San Fernando Mission serves as a museum, library, and research center. Its purpose is to collect and preserve documents and other records associated with California’s Catholic heritage. The Monsignor Francis J. Weber Fund, in honor of the longtime scholar, author, and archivist, exclusively benefits the Archival Center so it may continue to offer the public a rich display of art, relics, historical documents, and exhibits on important figures and moments in diocesan history.

House of Prayer for Priests Maintenance Fund in Honor of Cardinal Roger M. Mahony

One of just a handful of like centers across the United States, the House of Prayer for Priests in Los Angeles is an essential part of the Archdiocese. The retreat center provides educational and spiritual opportunities for local and visiting priests to deepen their connection to their faith and the communities they serve. This fund provides for the care and maintenance of the physical structures and landscapes of HOPP.

Pastors Endowment Fund

This is a permanent endowment campaign led by the pastor of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels to provide for the long-term care and upgrades of the Cathedral. The location in the heart of the civic and arts center of Los Angeles includes a campus of buildings constructed to last 500 years. The fund was initiated by the Cathedral’s first pastor, Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik.

Raquel Latham Scholarship Fund

The Raquel Latham Scholarship Fund was established by her husband, Donald Latham, and family to preserve Raquel’s legacy of supporting Catholic education. The fund contributes to the tuition of one or more top academic eighth-grade graduates of St. Mary Magdalen School in Camarillo to continue education at a Catholic high school. This fund is one example of how a single individual’s passion can make a real difference to a community on a local level.

Sir Daniel Donohue Fund

Affectionately known as “Sir Daniel” to his friends and family, Daniel Donohue served as chairman of the Dan Murphy Foundation for more than 40 years. He was a strong proponent of Catholic schools and programs for the poor, was essential to the construction of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, and was a passionate patron of the arts. This fund, in his memory, supports Catholic programs throughout the Archdiocese that are most in need.

Sister Mary Jean Meier Fund for the Benefit of the Greatest Needs of the House of Prayer for Priests

The Sister Mary Jean Meier Fund exclusively benefits the Cardinal Timothy Manning House of Prayer for Priests. Located near Los Angeles’ Griffith Park, the HOPP retreat center is a much-needed sanctuary for local and visiting priests to rest, reflect, and gather. Sister Mary Jean Meier, R.S.M., was a tireless advocate for Catholic education, fundraising, and religious life. This fund in her honor continues her legacy.

Union Rescue Mission Charitable Fund

The Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles provides safe shelter for more than 1,300 precious souls a night. Sharing the compassion of Jesus Christ for 125 years, its mission is to embrace all homeless men, women, and children and give them hope and healing for a changed life. In addition to meals and shelter, URM also offers emergency services, recovery programs, clinics, and a learning center to help the homeless find their way home.
