Last month, CCF-LA staff members were invited to attend the 5th annual Christian Service 4LIFE event hosted by LIFEsocal and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. This event brings close to 2,000 junior high and high school students from around Southern California together to promote the culture of life. The event kicked off with the popular Christian DJ Joe Melendrez and his interactive hip-hop set. Once all the students were settled in, we met the hosts—former America’s Next Top Model Brittney Shauran and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy senior Katharine Lund. The day was made up of an array of presentations and […]
Recently, CCF-LA founding board member Lou Castruccio and his wife, Jane, hosted a dinner party at their home to hold a discussion with Archbishop José H. Gomez on the subject of multigenerational philanthropy. Every one of the 30 guests who RSVPed—including the hosts’ own children—arrived on time and was excited about learning more about CCF-LA. The attendees represented philanthropic Catholics who are already invested in the mission and future of our Catholic Church. In a few cases, two generations were present from the same family, including young adults, who participated in a conversation about the legacy of giving within their […]
On October 10, 2017, the Catholic Community Foundation of Los Angeles attended the 48th Annual Gala for the Right to Life League of Southern California. Held at the Central Plaza conference room of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, the fundraising event was a major success for the league and for those who continue to support the sanctity of life. The Right to Life League (RTLL) is a pro-life organization with a mission to educate, serve, and protect human life from birth to natural death. Life is a God-given gift that should be upheld and seen as valuable, […]
On Friday, September 15, 2017, CCF-LA had the honor of presenting the first annual scholarship award from the Foundation’s P.J. Wade, MD, Scholarship Fund. Founded by an alum from the St. Patrick School class of 1955, the scholarship fund supports one academically outstanding Latino 5th-grade boy each year. This year’s recipient was Daniel Torres. Dr. Wade, CCF-LA director of development Timithie Norman, and St. Patrick School development director Mary Fitzpatrick enjoyed a St. Patrick School Mass before principal Raquel Shin announced the award and its recipient. The entire school, led by the student choir, performed an energetic rendition of “I’ve […]
On June 2 in Camarillo, Calif., at the annual awards luncheon for St. Mary Magdalen School graduating 8th graders, a family representative presented the first scholarship awards from the Raquel Latham Scholarship Fund at the Catholic Community Foundation of Los Angeles. Adele Walsh, a former board member of St. Mary Magdalen, spoke of her late cousin’s passion and support of Catholic education. “Raquel was always an excellent student,” Walsh recounted. “Her faith was always important to her.” Latham was a lifelong supporter of educational opportunities, especially for intercultural exchange, women in education, and Catholic education. The fund in Raquel’s honor […]
On May 30, 2017, Archbishop José H. Gomez blessed the efforts of the Catholic Community Foundation of Los Angeles (“CCF-LA”) commemorating the expansion of the foundation, which was established to help support the ministries of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles serving those most in need. CCF-LA clients, board and committee members, and staff received the Archbishop’s blessing as part of a ceremony at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles in downtown Los Angeles. The foundation began operations in March 2015 to provide professional philanthropy and asset management services to individuals as well as charitable and other organizations. The […]
On Aug. 11, 2016, the Wells Fargo Community Connections Breakfast was held at the Skirball Cultural Center in West Los Angeles. Hosted by Area President Patrick Nygren and Senior Vice President of the Wells Fargo Foundations Jonathan Weedman, the event gathered together all the local bank branch managers along with representatives from the nonprofits of their choice. I was honored to represent the Catholic Community Foundation of Los Angeles as one of 58 different organizations to each receive a $1,000 unrestricted grant from the generous folks at Wells Fargo. Other Catholic recipients included Homeboy Industries and the Immaculate Heart community, […]
On Tuesday, June 28, CCF-LA hosted an appreciation event for all those who have contributed in one way or another during our inaugural year. The Foundation would not be where it is today without the support of our clients, money managers, Board, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, staff, and service providers. You are the power of many coming together to create this amazing foundation and financial institution.
A big thank you to all who attended Sunday’s event at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. With over 50 donors in attendance and $4 million raised in funds, CCF-LA’s first sponsored event for the Pastors Endowment Fund was a huge success.
